Highlights
Prutas — A Summit Worth Earning
Prutas is one of Durmitor's most satisfying peaks for moderate hikers — a proper mountain summit with a genuine sense of achievement, attainable within a single half-day. The 7.7km route climbs 657 meters, meaning you work hard for the views, but the trail is well-graded and well-marked throughout.
From the summit, the panorama is extraordinary. The entire Durmitor massif fans out before you: Bobotov Kuk to the north, Šljeme and Savin Kuk to the south, the glacial lakes glinting in the valleys below. On a clear day, the view extends beyond the national park boundaries to the surrounding Montenegrin mountains.
Ascending to the Top
The trail passes through several distinct zones: dense forest near the base, open scrubland at mid-elevation, and bare rocky terrain on the upper slopes. Each transition brings new scenery and new perspectives. The final approach to the summit involves some rocky scrambling, adding a touch of adventure to an otherwise accessible climb.
Your mountain guide will lead at a sustainable pace, with rest stops positioned at the best scenic points. The 3-hour 15-minute duration includes time to enjoy the summit before the descent.
