Bobotov Kuk — The Roof of Durmitor

At 2,523 meters above sea level, Bobotov Kuk is the highest point on the entire Durmitor massif and one of the highest peaks in the Balkans. Summiting it is the ultimate hiking achievement on Durmitor — a serious hard-rated climb that demands real mountain fitness, but rewards those who make it with an experience they will not forget.

The 9.7km trail gains 915 meters of elevation, climbing through alpine meadows and increasingly rugged rocky terrain before emerging onto the exposed upper mountain. The final approach to the summit is a hands-on scramble on solid limestone, demanding confidence and careful footing. On clear days — and Durmitor's summit days are often crystal clear — you can see across all of Montenegro.

Standing at the Top

The view from Bobotov Kuk is unlike anything else in Montenegro. To every direction, the Durmitor massif unfolds below: the glacial lakes like scattered mirrors, the dark forests of the plateau, the dramatic canyon of the Tara River, and the distant mountains of Bosnia, Albania, and Serbia. On exceptional days, the Adriatic Sea glitters to the southwest.
