Three Lakes, One Perfect Day

Durmitor is famously home to 18 glacial lakes — this trail visits three of them in a single 7.7km loop. Each lake has its own character: different colors, different surroundings, and a different mood. Moving between them feels like walking through a series of living paintings.

The trail gains only 116 meters of elevation, making the 3-hour journey accessible to most hikers. The path passes through pine and spruce forests, open meadows alive with wildflowers in summer, and along shorelines of striking glacial blue water.

What to Expect

The loop format means you return to your starting point, making logistics simple. Your mountain guide will name each lake, explain how the glaciers carved this landscape during the last ice age, and point out the endemic plant species that thrive at this altitude.

This is one of the most photographically rewarding trails on Durmitor — three distinct lakeside scenes, each worth pausing at. In early summer, snow patches linger near the water's edge. By July and August, the meadows burst into color.
