Crvena Greda Long — A Full Day in the Heart of Durmitor

The long route to Crvena Greda is a serious mountain undertaking — 19.5km across an extraordinary altitude range of nearly 700 meters vertical, from the lowest point at 1,416m all the way to the red-limestone summit at 2,101m. This is a full-day expedition for hikers who want to experience Durmitor at its most vast and wild.

The route takes you deep into terrain that few casual visitors ever see. Far from the popular paths around Žabljak, you'll traverse remote forests, cross high alpine pastures, and navigate the rocky upper mountain on your way to Crvena Greda's distinctively colored summit. The red hue of the peak's limestone becomes apparent long before you arrive — a striking landmark visible from much of the national park.

The Long Game

Six hours and 24 minutes in the mountains demands respect. Your guide will manage the day's pacing carefully — steady climbing in the morning, time on the summit to rest and take in the extraordinary views, and a controlled descent in the afternoon. Lunch is taken on the mountain, with panoramic company.

From the summit at 2,101 meters, the view encompasses essentially all of Durmitor: the high peaks of the massif, the glacial lakes, the Tara Canyon cutting through the landscape, and the distant ridges of the Montenegrin highlands.
