While the short route to Jablan Lake is perfect for a morning outing, the long version reveals an entirely different side of Durmitor. This 19.9km trail descends from higher elevations before climbing to the lake, covering terrain that takes you through remote forests, open ridgelines, and pristine alpine landscapes rarely seen by casual visitors.

The route spans an impressive altitude range — starting as low as 1,417 meters and climbing to the lake at 1,854 meters — accumulating 437 meters of total elevation gain across 6 hours and 20 minutes of walking. The extended distance means you move through multiple distinct ecosystems and enjoy shifting perspectives on Durmitor's dramatic skyline.

What Makes This Route Special

The extra kilometers reveal Durmitor at its most authentic. Away from the busy tracks near Žabljak, you'll walk through ancient forests where the only sounds are wind, birdsong, and water. The views of the high peaks — Bobotov Kuk, Šljeme, Prutas — grow and evolve with every kilometer.

Jablan Lake, reached in the latter half of the route, feels all the more rewarding after a full morning of walking. Your guide will lead a comfortable pace with rest stops at the best viewpoints.
