What to Expect

Red Rock Zipline

The Red Rock Zipline is the original and most established zipline over the Tara Canyon. Spanning 350 meters of steel cable, it carries you 170 meters above the canyon floor in a flight that lasts approximately 45 seconds. The price is €20 per ride.

The zipline launches from a platform on the canyon rim and carries you across to the opposite side, with the Tara River visible far below and the canyon walls stretching in both directions. It is one of the most photographed experiences in Durmitor.

Award-Winning Experience

The Red Rock Zipline was recognized with the Wild Beauty Award in 2013, Montenegro's tourism excellence recognition. The award acknowledged both the quality of the experience and the safety standards maintained by the operation.

Mountain Rescue Service Team

What distinguishes the Red Rock Zipline from other adventure operations is its team: the zipline is staffed by members of the Mountain Rescue Service. These are the same professionals who conduct search and rescue operations in Durmitor's mountains. Their training and expertise bring the highest level of safety awareness to every flight.

Equipment is inspected before every operating day, harnesses are fitted individually, and every rider receives a clear safety briefing before launch.

No Booking Required

One of the great advantages of the zipline is its simplicity. No advance booking is needed. The operation runs on a walk-up basis during operating hours throughout the season (May through October). Show up, get harnessed, and fly. During peak summer there may be a short queue, but wait times are typically minimal.

The Flight

You are fitted with a full-body harness and double-clipped to the cable with redundant safety carabiners. From the launch platform, the operator counts down and releases you. The initial acceleration is swift, and within seconds you are soaring above the canyon at speed.

The 45-second flight gives you time to look down at the Tara River threading through the gorge below, scan the forested canyon walls, and take in the scale of the landscape. It is brief but intensely memorable.

After landing on the far platform, a short, easy walk (5 to 10 minutes) brings you back to the starting point.

Other Zipline Options

Beyond Red Rock, the Tara Canyon area also features the Montenegro Zipline and Tara Extreme operations, which offer additional zipline experiences at various points along the canyon. We can advise on the best option based on your location and preferences.

Combine with Rafting

The zipline pairs perfectly with a Tara rafting trip. Many guests fly the zipline before or after their time on the river. When booked as an add-on to a rafting trip with Durmitor Adventure, the zipline is available at a discounted rate of €15 — a 25% saving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What months does the zipline operate?

The Red Rock Zipline operates from May through October, weather permitting. Peak season is July and August with the longest operating hours. Shoulder months may have reduced hours — contact us for current schedules.

Are there age limits?

There is no strict minimum age, but children must meet the minimum weight requirement and be assessed by our team for readiness. Very young children who appear uncomfortable or frightened will not be sent. There is no maximum age — fitness and comfort matter more than years.

What are the weight limits?

The weight range is approximately 30 kg to 130 kg. Riders outside this range cannot be accommodated due to equipment and speed safety constraints. Pairs flying together must have a combined weight within operating limits.

Do I need to book in advance?

No booking is required. The Red Rock Zipline operates on a walk-up basis throughout its operating season. Simply show up during operating hours and you can fly. During peak summer, there may be a short wait during busy periods.

Is there parking available?

Yes, there is a parking area at the zipline site. It is located along the road near the Tara Canyon, easily accessible by car from Zabljak.

How do I get back after the ride?

After landing on the far side, a short walk (approximately 5 to 10 minutes) brings you back to the starting point. The return path is easy and scenic.

When is it busiest?

Midday in July and August tends to be the busiest time. For shorter waits, visit in the morning or late afternoon. Shoulder months (May, June, September, October) are generally quiet.

How safe is it?

The zipline is operated by members of the Mountain Rescue Service team, which is the highest standard of safety personnel in the region. Equipment is inspected daily, and the cable system is certified to international standards. You wear a full harness and are double-clipped to the cable.

What happens in bad weather?

The zipline does not operate during thunderstorms, very high winds, or heavy rain. Light rain or overcast conditions do not affect operations. If conditions change while you are waiting, the team will advise you.

Can two people fly at the same time?

Yes, tandem flights (two people on the cable simultaneously) are available for those who want to share the experience. Combined weight must be within operating limits. This is a popular option for couples and friends.
