What to Expect
Off-Road Exploration of Durmitor
The buggy picnic tour is a completely different way to experience Durmitor — no hiking boots required, no physical demands, just open-air off-road driving through some of the most beautiful terrain in the national park. You sit back in a 5-seat buggy while a local driver-guide takes you along forest tracks, mountain roads, and paths that regular vehicles cannot reach.
What Makes It Special
Every buggy comes stocked with cold drinks — juices, water, beer, and rakija (the traditional Montenegrin fruit brandy). This is not a rushed transfer between points; it is a rolling picnic through the mountains. Your driver-guide is a local who grew up in the Durmitor area and shares stories, myths, and knowledge about every place you visit.
On longer tour options, a kayak is strapped to the buggy. When you reach a lake, you can paddle out on the still mountain water — a moment of calm in the middle of your adventure.
Three Tour Durations
We offer three buggy tour options, each covering different ground:
Short Tour — 1.5 Hours
A taste of the Durmitor backcountry. You visit Devil's Lake (Vrazje Jezero), one of Durmitor's atmospheric glacial lakes, arriving via forest tracks that are inaccessible by regular car. Cold drinks are included, and you have time to explore the lakeshore before heading back. This option is perfect for those with limited time or looking for a lighter activity to complement a bigger adventure day.
Medium Tour — 2.5 Hours
The medium tour expands the route to include Devil's Lake and Fish Lake, two of the park's most scenic glacial lakes. The driving route covers more varied terrain — open meadows, dense forest sections, and elevated tracks with views of the surrounding peaks. You spend more time at each stop and the pace is relaxed. Cold drinks flow throughout.
Long Tour — 4.5 Hours
The full buggy picnic experience. The long tour visits Devil's Lake, Fish Lake, Zminja Lake, and the famous Curevac viewpoint — one of the most dramatic overlooks of the Tara Canyon, where you stand more than 1,000 meters above the river. The kayak comes along on this option for lake paddling.
The highlight is an organic local lunch prepared in the traditional style. You eat in the open air, surrounded by mountains, with food sourced from local farms. This is the tour for those who want to spend a full half-day immersed in the Durmitor landscape at a relaxed, enjoyable pace.
Your Driver-Guide
The driver-guide is the heart of the buggy tour experience. These are locals who know every track, every shortcut, every viewpoint, and every story connected to the places you visit. They share legends about Devil's Lake, point out medicinal plants along the route, explain the traditional pastoral life of the mountain communities, and keep the conversation flowing as naturally as the drinks.
The guides adjust the experience to your interests. Want to linger at a viewpoint? No problem. Want to know about local wildlife? They have stories. Prefer quiet contemplation? They respect that too.
Who Is It For?
The buggy tour is one of our most inclusive activities. It requires no physical fitness, no special skills, and no equipment. It is ideal for:
- Families with young children or older family members
- Visitors who want to see Durmitor's highlights without hiking
- Groups looking for a fun, social activity with food and drinks
- Anyone who appreciates off-road driving and mountain scenery
The buggy can handle rough terrain, steep tracks, and narrow forest paths, giving you access to places most visitors never see.
